Ingredients
- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 T. sugar
- 1-1/2 t. baking powder
- 1 t. salt
- 2/3 c. cornmeal
- 2 T. shortening
- 1 egg
- 3/4 c. milk
- 8 to 10 hot dogs
- 8 to 10 wooden sticks
- oil for deep frying

Preparation
Step 1
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl; stir in cornmeal. Using a pastry blender or 2 forks, cut in shortening until crumbly; set aside.
Beat together egg and milk in a separate bowl. Stir into cornmeal mixture. Thoroughly dry each hot dog with a paper towel to ensure batter will cling. Insert a stick into each; dip in batter.
Pour oil to a depth of 2 to 3 inches in a deep fryer; heat oil to 350 to 375 degrees. Fry corn dogs in hot oil 4 to 5 minutes, until golden.
Serves 8 to 10.
