Preparation

Step 1

Brown meat in frying pan. Drain excess fat. Combine flour, cheese, herbs and salt in mixing bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add sausage. Mix until evenly distributed. Sprinkle with ice water and stir until dough is just moist enough to handle. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. (This much can be done ahead, if desired). Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve hot with dipping sauce. Accompany with sliced tomatoes and celery sticks. Garnish with sprig of mint.

Hot Pizza Dipping Sauce
In saucepan, combine 1 cup tomato sauce with 2 tbsp. Parmesan cheese, 1 tbsp. salad oil, 1/4 tsp. dried oregano, 1/4 tsp. garlic salt and 1/4 tsp. salt. Heat to simmering. Keep warm while serving.
