  • 1/2 cup pecans
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 square butter
  • 2 yellow cake mixes
  • 14 inch dutch oven

Step 1

line the oven with aluminum foil, place oven on the heat, level it, and melt the butter in the oven. When melted, add the brown sugar, then the pineapple slices, then the pecans. This will be the glaze.

In separate bowl, you should have the cake mixed and ready while the butter is melting in the oven.

This dessert doesn't require much heat on the bottom, just enough to brown the glaze--about 8 briquettes should be plenty. As with all baking, most of the heat shouldbe on top. bake about 25 minutes. Check every 15 minutes and test to see if done. when done flip onto a large cookie sheet or a foil lines sturdy cardboard being careful not to burn yourself.

This recipe doesn't say how many coals on top, but if I remember right it is twice the coals on top as bottom. You might start with 12 and see what you think. You can always add a couple if needed.
