Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 tablespoon ginger
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons cloves
  • 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix flour, baking soda, salt, and spices together. Set aside. Combine syrup, butter, and sugar in saucepan over low heat. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm. Add egg. Gradually mix dry ingredients into this mixture. (Dough will be quite soft.) Put in refrigerator overnight. The next day, roll out very thin on a pastry board, using as little flour as possible. Cut in desired shapes. Place on greased cookie sheet, and bake for eight to ten minutes Makes seven dozen medium-sized cutouts.
