  • 4 oz. semisweet chocolate squares or bar
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1/3 C. cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 C. half-and-half
  • 2 C. milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

1. Microwave 1 unwrapped chocolate square 30 seconds on High just until it feels slightly warm. With vegetable peeler, along the side of the chocolate bar, shave about 1 T. chocolate curls. Set curls and leftover chocolate square aside.

2. In 2-qt. saucepan, with wire whisk, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt until well mixed. Gradually stir in half-and-half and milk. Heat cornstarch mixture to boiling over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and cook 1 minute longer. Remove from heat; whisk in leftover warmed chocolate and remaining chocolate squares until smooth.

3. Stir vanilla into chocolate pudding until well mixed, and divide among 6 small glass cups or serving dishes. Refrigerate until well chilled. Just before serving, garnish each with a dollop of whipped cream and some chocolate curls.
