Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 c. Sam Adams or other cream stout or Honey Porter
  • chocolate frosting
  • 2/3 c. Dutch process dark cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. unbleached flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda, sifted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. sour cream

Step 1

Heat oven to 350. Lightly dust 2 greased 8" springform pans w/ cocoa powder. In a heavy saucepan or microwave, heat butter, beer, & cocoa powder till butter melts. Let cool. Sift dry ingredients together. Add the beer-cocoa mix, beat thoroughly 1 min. on med. spped. Add eggs & sour cream & beat 2 min. more. Pour batter into pans & bake 25-30 mins. Insert toothpick / check to make sure it comes out clean. Cool 10 mins. Remove sides, cool completely. Use long, serrated knife to cut even tops. Spread each layer w/ thin coating of frosting, stack.
