Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 2 C. sifted flour
  • 1 2/3 C. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 5 T. cocoa
  • 2/3 C. soft butter
  • 1 1/3 C. milk or half & half
  • 1 1/3 tsp. vanilla sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 5 T. butter
  • 7 T. hot milk
  • 1 1/3 tsp. vanilla sugar
  • 1/2 C. cocoa
  • 2 2/3 C. sifted confectioners sugar

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour pan and set aside.

2. Sift all dry ingredients together. Add cocoa and butter. Pour in milk, vanilla sugar and eggs. Beat 2 minutes. Pour mixture into pan.

3. Bake first rack from bottom for 40-45 minutes. Turn out on a rack to cool.

To make frosting:
4. Melt together butter and cocoa. Stir in sugar, hot milk and vanilla sugar. Beat until thick enough to spread. Cover cooled cake with chocolate frosting.
