Preparation

Step 1

Mix dry ingredients together, then add very warm water - enough to make a sticky dough. Dough should be siny and paste-like.

Place about 1/4 c. flour into small mixing bowl. With soup spoon, scoop a generous spoonful of dough into bowl of flour.

Coat dough with flour, using just enough so dough doesn't stick to your fingers. Gently shape into circle, patting lightly to flatten to about 1/4" thick.

When frying pan is hot, coat bottom with oil, then place dough into pan. Fry until risen and golden. Continue with remainder of the dough, using more oil to coat pan as needed. Bannock should be very light and not greasy.

Good with butter or jam.
