Ingredients

  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 4 1/4 to 4 3/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve sugar in warm water, sprinkle in the yeast, stand 10 mins.
Scald milk, stir in sugar and salt, cool.
Beat together until smooth, the lukewarm milk mixture, shortening, eggs, 2 cups flour and yeast.
Mix in remaining flour, knead, as usual for yeast doughs. Rise as usual 1 - 1 1/2 hours.
Punch down. Divide dough into 32 pieces. Form into balls. Place in 2 well greased 8 inch pans. cover with greased wax paper or plastic wrap.
BAKE at 250 F for 35 mins.
Let stand 5 minutes before removing from pan. Cool. Wrap in foil or plastic wrap.
Keeps 2 weeks in 'fridge, 3 months in freezer.
Bake 400F for 6-8 mins just before serving.
