Ingredients

  • 1/2 lemon, cut in thin slices
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 3 cups apples, pared and sliced
  • 1 cup zucchini, grated
  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3 tbsp cold water

Step 1

Simmer the lemon slices in water for 5 minutes. Drain, reserving the water. Blend sugar, flour and nutmeg into this water and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Add the apples, lemon slices, zucchini and the butter. Sift flour and salt and cut in the shortening. Sprinkle cold water over mixture. Toss lightly, form ball and roll out to 10-by-6-inch rectangle. Cut into various shapes – triangles or circles, etc. Pour hot apple and zucchini into greased 10-by-6-inch pan. Arrange pastry on top. Bake at 400 F oven for 45 minutes.
