Florida Orange and Lemon Muffins

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup plus 1 Tbsp sugar, divided
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 2 Tbsp finely grated orange zest
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract, divided
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
- 1 Tbsp finely grated lemon zest

Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, cardamom, baking soda, and salt; make a well in center of mixture.
3. In a small bowl, combine sour cream, butter, orange zest, eggs, and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened.
4. Place paper baking cups in a 12-cup muffin pan; spoon batter into cups, filling two-thirds full.
5. In a small bowl, combine almonds, lemon zest, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; sprinkle evenly over batter.
6. Bake for 24 minutes, or until olden brown and a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pans immediately, and cool on wire racks.
