Ingredients

  • 4 cups coarsely shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and peper to taste
  • 2 Tablespoons flour
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup hot cream milk
  • 2 Tablespoons butter

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400.
Drop cabbage into boiling water and boil until barely tender ,about 5 minutes; drain.
Place half the cabbage in a buttered 1-1/2 quart casserole dish, spreading evenly.
Top with half the sliced onions, half the sugar, salt, pepper and flour.
Add remaining cabbage, onions, and seasonings to the top.
Sprinkle with cheese and then bread crumbs.
Pour hot cream or milk on top and dot with butter,
Bake for 15-20 minutes.
