Ingredients
- 5 lbs. Granny Smith (or other) apples, peeled, quartered & cored
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 2 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- 3 tsp. cinnamon, divided
- 1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 1/2 cup walnuts

Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a 13" x 9" baking dish. Add apples, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, lemon juice, 2 tsp. cinnamon and nutmeg; toss. Arrange apples evenly in a dish. In another bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs form; stir in nuts. Crumble topping over apples. Bake until golden brown and bubbly, about 50 minutes. Serve warm or cooled.
