  • 3 c all purpose flour
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1 T baking powder
  • 1 t salt
  • 3/4 t cream of tartar
  • 3/4 c butter
  • 1 c shredded cheese
  • 1 c milk

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.In a large bowl mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter 'til mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add milk all at once. Using a fork, stir just until mixture is moistened.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead dough just until it holds together. Pat or lightly roll out to 3/4" thickness. Cut with flour dipped 2 1/2" round cutter; re roll scraps when necessary.

Place dough circles one inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes or until golden brown. Remove rolls from baking sheet. Serve warm.
