Ingredients

  • 1 kilo granny smith apples
  • Pastry
  • 2 cups self raising flour
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 cup custard powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 125 gms melted butter
  • milk if necessary

Preparation

Step 1

Sift flour, icing sugar and custard powder into a bowl. Add melted butter and eggs. Mix to a soft dough. Roll out to thickness required.

Use and old large china dinner place for cooking pie.

Divide pastry into two equal pieces. Roll out and line plate. Add stewed apples, sprinkle with nutmeg and a little more sugar if the apples are bitter.

Roll out other piece of pastry and place over top of apples. Brush with a little milk and sprinkle a little nutmeg and sugar over the top of the pastry.

Bake in moderate oven till golden brown.

This pastry sometimes rolls out beautifully and other times it is pretty crumbly. If crumbly just roll out the best you can and just patch it onto the dish and onto the top of the pie.
