Ingredients
- 2 cups plain flour
- 1 t salt
- 1 t soda
- 1 t cinnamon
- 1 t cloves
- 1 t nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup fig preserves
- 1/2 cup strawberry preserves
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 T vanilla flavoring
- Topping
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 T Karo syrup
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 stick butter
- 1 t soda
- 1 t vanilla

Preparation
Step 1
Sift dry ingredients together
Beat in oil.
Add eggs (one at a time), buttermilk and vanilla.
Stir in preserves and nuts
Grease and flour tube pan. (Granny uses a 9 X 13 inch pan).
Pour in batter and bake for 1 1/2 hours at 325 degrees. (If using a 9 X 13 inch pan, bake for 1 hour.)
When done, pour topping over hot cake.
Topping
Start topping 10 or 15 minutes before cake is done
Cook 10 minutes.
Punch holes in cake and pour over cake.
