  • 5 lb chuck steak
  • 2 cans whole tomatoes, diced
  • 1 lrg bayleaf
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cup red wine- Joel Gott 815 Cabernet Savignon (Sprouts) $16.00
  • 1 large cabbage, quartered
  • 2 loaves french bread
  • 2 med yellow onions, chopped
  • 1-15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp allspice
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 4 qt water
  • 4 fresh mint sprigs
  • salt and pepper to taste

Step 1

Use a pot that is 6-8 quarts and fill 1/2 to 2/3 full. Put meat into pot of water and bring to boil. Also add while bringing to boil chopped onions, cinnamon, sauces, ketchup, wine and spices. Put the whole spices into a tea ball and submerge in broth. Check meat frequently. Right before it starts to flake remove from pot and let cool. Cut meat into bite size pieces. Return meat to pot. Add cabbage and simmer for 2-3 hours. Add mint right before turning off heat. (No sooner, No later) Mint is a MUST! Do not omit or substitute! Cut french bread into slices and add to soup. Enjoy!
