Ingredients

  • for Tropical Chiffon Cake:
  • 2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup egg whites (about 8)
  • use 3/4 cup orange juice instead of water, 1 tsp grated orange peel or 2 tsp grated lemon peel, leave out vanilla extrac
  • Can fold in 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut at end
  • Bake 55 mins
  • Note: 1 cup cake flour = 1 cup - 2tbs all purpose flour

Step 1

Sift 1st 4 ingred together, add next 5, beat til satin smooth

Add cream of tartar to egg whites, beat til very stiff peaks

Pour batter over egg whites in thin stream & fold in

Bake in ungreased tube pan, invert to cool
