Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut in 1 1/2" cubes
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3/4 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • dash ground cloves
  • 6 carrots, chopped
  • 4 potatoes, cubed
  • Optional: 1/2 cup white wine

Preparation

Step 1

Brown meat in hot oil

Add 2 cups hot water & next 9 ingredients

Cover, simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally

Add vegetables, cook additional 30 - 40 mins til tender

Optional: skim fat from liquid, measure 1 3/4 cup liquid. Combine 1/4 cup water & 2 tbs flour til smooth; slowly stir into hot liquid, cook & stir til bubbly; return to stew to thicken
