This bread is a little sweet, sort of like Hawaiin bread.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water (110* to 120* in the bowl)
  • 2 pkg yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups milk (110*)
  • 6 tablespoons melted and cooled butter
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 extra large egg yolks
  • 5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbls salt

Step 1

Preheat 350*

Use the dough hook! Mix first three ingredients until the yeast is dissolved.
Add milk, butter, honey and mix at medium speed. Add yolks, 3 cups of flour and salt. Mix on low speed for about 5 minutes. Then add 2 more cups of flour and mix, then add more flour as needed so that dough does not stick to the bottom of the bowl. Knead for 8 minutes.

Place on board. Knead by hand until it feels stretchy. Grease the bottom of a bowl, place in bowl and coat with grease, cover with cloth and let rise for about an hour until double in size.

Dump out on board, cut in half, roll into an oval shape, place in buttered bread pans, cover with cloth, let rise again for about an hour, brush with egg whites and bake 40 minutes.
