Ohio State Fair Fried Pickles 1 Picture

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz) jar sweet pickle chips
  • 1 (8 oz) jar dill pickle spears
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup beer
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese dressing

Preparation

Step 1

1. Drain pickles on paper towels; set aside.

2. In medium bowl, stir together flour, cornmeal, salt and paprika.

3. Separate egg and place yolk and white in 2 small bowls. Add beer to yolk and beat with fork until blended. Whip egg white with wire whisk until soft peaks form.

4. Stir egg yolk mixture into flour mixture. Carefully fold in beaten egg white.

5. Heat oil in deep fryer to 350°F. Dip pickle chips into batter and fry, in batches, until golden, using tongs to turn once, about 2 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Repeat with pickle spears.

6. Place blue cheese dressing in small bowl on platter. Surround with fried pickles and serve immediately.
