Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound oleo (do not substitute)
  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Step 1

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder. Cream oleo, shortening and sugar together well. Add eggs, one at a time, blending well after each addition. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla. Pour into greased and lightly floured tube pan. Bake 1-1/2 hous at 315 degrees. 1/2 cup cocoa may be added to dry ingredients to make chocolate pound cake.

Butter Frosting:

Blend together 1/2 cup soft butter, 1/8 teaspoon salt, 3-1/2 cups confectioner's sugar, 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon milk, 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla.
