Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1.4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1.3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk

Step 1

In large bowl, sift flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and baking soda. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. Add milk to flour mixture. With fork, stir until mixture forms a soft dough that leaves side of bowl. Turn out dough onto floured surface. Knead. Roll dough with floured 2-1/2" round cutter and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Makes 10 biscuits.
