Pecan Pie Surprise ( Grandma Smitherman's Recipe)

Ingredients

• Filling:
• 1 box yellow cake mix
• 1/2 cup margarine melted
• 1 egg
• 2/3 cup reserved cake mix
• 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
• 1 1/2 cups dark corn syrup
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 3 eggs

Preparation

Step 1

Grease and flour 13x9 inch pan.
Reserve 2/3 cup of the cake mix for the filling, set aside.
In large mixing bowl combine remaining dry cake mix, margarine and egg. Mix until crumbly. Press into prepared pan. Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes until light golden brown.
Meanwhile prepare filling. In large mixing bowl combine all ingredients. Beat at medium speed 1 to 2 minutes. Pour filling over partially baked crust; sprinkle with pecans. Return to oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until filling is set.
Cool, cut into bars.
