Ingredients

  • Walnut Cream Wafers:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 - 8 oz. package cream cheese
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 recipe cream cheese pastry
  • 1 egg yolk beaten with 1 teaspoon milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Powdered sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups ground walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Dash each of cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream whipped
  • Maraschino cherries with stems

Preparation

Step 1

Roll pastry 1/8" thick and cut in 2-1/2-3" rounds with scalloped cutter or pastry wheel. With small cutter cut center from half the rounds (stack centers and reroll), place rounds on cookie sheets, brush with egg-yolk mixture and prick with fork. Chill 30 minutes. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven 12-15 minutes or until slightly puffed and golden. Cool wire rack.

Filling:

Stir together sour cream and 1 cup powdered sugar, add walnuts, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Fold in whipped cream and chill well. Generously spread solid rounds with filling and top with rings. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and decorate with cherries.
