Step 1
Scrub off factory coating using soap, hot water, and steel wool. Dry it and then coat the cooking surface with thin layer of lard, shortening, or vegetable oil. Prehat the oven to 350 degrees and put a baking sheet on the lowest rack. On the rack above place the skillet upside down. "Cook" it for an hour and let cool. It's ready to use but could take three more coatings and cooking cycles. Never put it in a dishwasher. Clean it by wiping with an oiled paper towel. Re-season if it begins to rust or if food starts to stick.
