  • 1/2 Cup crisco
  • 1 1/4 Cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 Cups cake flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 Cup milk
  • 3 egg whites

Preparation

Step 1

Blend crisco, sugar, salt and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients alternating with milk. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold in carefully. Turn batter into 2 8" layer pans lined with paper. Bake in a moderate oven 25-30 minutes.

Lemon Icing
Blend 4 Tbs crisco, 1/2 Cup sifted confectioners sugar grated rind of one lemon and an egg yolk. Add alternately 1/3 cup confectioner sugar. Frost between layers, top and sides.
