Preparation

Step 1

Combine flour, salt and sugar in a food processor and pulse 1-2 times. Add the butter and process until the butter and flour are blended and the mixture looks like cornmeal. Place mixture into a bowl and sprinkle with 4 tablespoons ice water. Use a spoon to gradually gather mixture into a ball. If it seems dry, add another tablespoon or 2 of water. When formed into a ball, wrap in plastic and flatten into a small disk. Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Roll dough between two sheets of plastic wrap sprinkled with flour. Roll with light pressure then move dough into a pie plate. Press firmly into the bottom and sides.

Combine all ingredients for filling and pour into pie shell. In a medium bowl combine all ingredients for topping and crumble over the top of the apple mixture. Bake at 400 for 40-50 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream or real whipped cream.
