Ingredients

  • 1 box (16 oz) medium shells
  • 3 T unsalted butter
  • 1/2 med onion, chopped
  • 3 T all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 1/2 t mustard powder
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/4 t ground white or black pepper
  • 3/4 lb sharp white cheddar cheese, grated (3 cups)
  • 1 c Hot Buffalo Wing or Honey Mustard & Onion pretzel pieces, or BBQ kettle chips, crushed

Preparation

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add shells; cook about 8 mins, following package directions. Drain.

Meanwhile, melt butter in a med saucepan over med heat. Add onion and cook 5 mins. Whisk in flour. While whisking, add milk in a thin stream. Whisk in mustard powder, salt and pepper.

Bring to a simmer, whisking occasionally. Simmer 3 mins. Remove from heat and whisk in cheese. Top with crushed pretzels.
