We both liked this very much. I overdid it a bit though, and the garlic and the shallots were quite black. Watch it in the final 5 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled and halved
  • 1 pound baby turnips, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 2 shallots, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • 1 sprig fresh thyme, table salt
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg
  • Maldon salt and freshly ground black pepper

Step 1

* Combine all ingredients in a zip-lock bag and refrigerate until serving time, overnight if desired.

* Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Place turnips on a rimmed baking sheet, arrange in a single layer and roast until golden on both sides, 25 to just 30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
