Ingredients

  • 1 tblsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • One 28-oz can crushed tomaotes (preferabley no-salt-added)
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp salt (if using no-salt-added tomaotes), or to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Step 1

Heat the oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes, basil, and red pepper flakes and bring to a boil. Reduce the ehat to medium low and simmer for 15 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.
