Ingredients

  • 3 sq chocolate
  • 3/4 c sour milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 2/3 c sugar
  • 1 1/2 c hot water
  • 3/4 c shortening
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 tsp vanilla
  • 3 c flour

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour tubepan.
Melt chocolate in a double boiler with water. Allow to cool then add milk and baking soda, set aside.
In a mixer beat sugar, shortening, salt, eggs, and vanilla.
Add flour and chocolate alternately to sugar mixture.
Bake in tubepan for about 45 mins. Loosely place foil over the top for 15 more minutes of baking. (total time about 1 hour)

Top with whipped cream frosting.
