  • 12 slices cinnamon bread
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 9 eggs
  • 1 quart milk
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Warmed preserves (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Line bottom of greased 13 X 9 X 2 baking dish with 6 slices of bread. Butter remaining bread slices; place butter side up on top of first layer.

In mixing bowl beat eggs; add milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla. Mix well and pour over bread. Let stand 15 minutes. Place the dish in a larger baking dish. Pour boiling water into larger pan to a depth of 1 inch.

Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until knife in center comes out clean. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Top with warmed preserves or whipped cream if using.
