Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 pkg (16oz each) frozen sliced peaches, thawed & well drained**
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 Tbsp shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • NOTE: **4 cups sliced fresh peaches can be substitute for the frozen peaches.

Step 1

heat oven to 400. Mix 1/2 cup sugar, the cornstarch and nutmeg in 2 qt saucepan. Stir in peaches and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute. Pour into ungreased 2 qt casserole. Mix flour, 1 Tbsp sugar, the baking powder and salt. Add short4ening and milk. Cut through shortening with fork until dough forms a ball. Drop mixture by 6 to 8 spoonsful onto hot fruit. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown. Serve warm with cream if desired.
