Preparation
Step 1
Peel, core, and slice up the apples all to pretty even size slices. Place into large bowl. In small bowl combine with pastry blender cinnamon, flour, brown sugar, and cold margarine until well combined. Stir in oatmeal with spoon. Reserve 1 cup of mixture. Dump both bowls together and coat the apples with the mixture.
Butter or spray an 9×13 pan. Pour apples in prepared pan. Sprinkle with reserved cup of crumb mixture. Bake on 350 for about 45 minutes or until apples are nice and soft but NOT mushy.
Serve with scoop of ice cream and swirl of caramel sauce!
For an added twist:
PSST…….I have put a nut crust on bottom too for added kick but definitely not necessary. What I did was:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 stick margarine/butter
1/2 cup pecans
1 tsp cinnamon
Mix all together with pastry blender (or fork) and press into bottom of prepared pan. I baked it for 10 minutes on 350 and then poured apples on top and reserved crumb topping and baked.
