Ingredients
- 1 cups dried split peas, rinsed and drained
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 900 ml Campbell's Chicken Broth (box)
- 900 ml water
- 1/4 cup pot barley, rinsed and drained
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 teaspoons canola oil
- 1 medium onions, chopped

Preparation
Step 1
* Combine split peas, carrots, celery and 1 onion with broth.
* Bring to a boil.
* Stir in barley, bay leaf and garlic.
* Reduce heat and simmer for 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
* Stir occasionally. Add salt and pepper to taste.
* Sauté the remaining 2 onions on medium heat until well-browned, about 6 to 8 minutes.
* Add onions to soup. Simmer 5 to 10 minutes longer.
* Reheats and/or freezes well. Add water if soup is too thick.
