Ingredients

  • 1 c firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 2 tlbs light corn syrup
  • 10 slices French bread, about 1 inch thick
  • 2 c milk
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Confectioners' sugar
  • Sweetened strawberries (See Tip)

Preparation

Step 1

Please brown sugar, butter & corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat until mixture cmes to a boil; boil 1 minute. Pour into a 13x9-inch baking dish. Arrange bread in a single layer over sauce.

Combine milk, eggs, vanilla and salt in a medium bowl. Whisk until smooth. Pour over bread in dish. Cover; chill overnight.

The next morning, preheat oven to 350F. Cook casserole until knife inserted in center comes out clean and bread is browned, 45 to 55 minutes. Sprinkle lightly with confectioners' sugar. Serve warm with sweetened strawberries.

To make sweetened strawberries, combine 1 quart cleaned and sliced fresh strawberies, 1 tlbs honey nd 1 tlbs lemon juice in a medium bowl. Chill until ready to serve.
