Turtle Brownies*

Patty Layer gave me this recipe. She made it all the time for family gatherings and the pan was always left empty.

Ingredients
- 1 pound caramels (14 oz. ok)
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk (for caramels)
- 1 box German chocolate cake mix
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk (for cake mix)
- 3/4 cup melted margarine
- 6 oz. chocolate chips, (3 oz. for each layer)

Step 1
Melt caramels with 1/2 cup milk, set aside.
Mix together cake mix, 1/3 cup milk and 3/4 cup margarine. Spread half of this mixture into a 9x13 pan Bake 6 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and sprinkle 3 oz. chocolate chips over the top and spread around with a spatula. Over this pour the caramel and spread around then sprinkle the other 3 oz of chips and spread around. Pat out the other half of cake mixture and lay on top of the caramel mixture. Return to the oven and cook 20 minutes, will look puffy.
