  • Glaze:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 T poppy seeds
  • 1 T baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T lemon zest
  • *
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 T lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. In a small bowl, combine flour, poppy seeds, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together. Add milk, lemon juice, egg, and lemon zest. Mix until combined. Add flour mixture and stir just until moistened. Do not over-mix.

Pour into lightly greased loaf pan. Bake 65-75 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

Allow to cool 10 minutes before removing to cooling rack. Pour glaze over top of bread, allowing to run down sides. Cool completely.
