Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 teasp. salt
- 1/2 teasp cinnamon
- 1/2 teasp ground cloves
- 1/2 teasp. nutmeg
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 teasp. baking soda
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup chopped nuts

Preparation
Step 1
Sift sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, gr. cloves, nutmeg and add shortening.
Reserve 1/2 cup of this mixture
Combine and add to crumb mixture, buttermilk and baking soda, a little at a time.
Pour into 2-9x5" loaf pans.
Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture
Bake 350 degrees-1 hour
