Dear Heloise: I recall years ago receiving a paper placard that one could carry at all times in the glove box, to put in the back window if stranded. It said "Call Police."

Not only would the police be notified immediately by possibly many 911 calls, but it also would scare off any predators, knowing police were on their way. A person could make his or her own sign to carry. — Suzanne L., Monmouth, Ill.
