Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp. oil
  • 1 1/2 lbs. lean pork, cut into 2/2" cubes (or veal and pork)
  • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup thinly slice onions
  • 2 cups thinly sliced celery
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 2 1/4 cups hot water, or stock
  • 3 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 no. 2 can bean sprouts.
  • 3 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • Hot, cooked rice

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oil and brown meat and mushrooms, stirring frequently. **( If using canned mushrooms, add with soy sauce and beansprouts.)

Add onions, celery, salt, pepper, ginger and hot water or stock.

Bring to a boil, turn heat down and continue cooking for about 40 - 60 minutes or until meat is tender.

Add soy sauce and well drained bean sprouts.

Turn up heat and thicken with cornstarch that has been dissolved in cold water.

Cook until thickened, reduce heat and cook 10 additional minutes.
Serve over rice or fried noodles.
