Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 large apples (2 pounds), cored and coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup light or dark molasses
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped mixed candied fruit
  • 1 pound (2 cups) seedless raisins

Preparation

Step 1

In a six-quart pan, bring water and cranberries to a boil over high heat. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until cranberries pop open. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. The mixture should be as thick as jam. Cover and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. Freeze for longer storage. Can be used as an alternative to traditional mincemeat recipes, as a side dish or relish, or eaten as is.
