Ingredients
- 1 large red onion halved, thinly sliced crosswise
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup white wine vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon coarse Kosher salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
- 1/2 cinnamon stick

Step 1
Place onion slices in medium bow. Bring newt 5 ingredients to boil in a heavy medium saucepan. Pour over onions in the bowl. Cover. Cool to room temperature. Chill overnight. Can be made 3 weeks ahead. Keep chilled. Drain before serving.
