This basic recipe can be changed to meet your own taste: omit almonds, almond flavoring and cherries and add 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped. This can be made one day and reheated in individual servings in the microwave all week.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups old fashioned oatmeal
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries
  • 1 large apple, unpeeled and grated

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Coat a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and transfer to prepared baking pan.

3. Sprinkle top with additional almonds, if desired.

4. Bake, uncovered for 45 minutes. Serve hot with milk or cider.
