Ingredients

  • 1 stick of butter – room temperature (1/2 cup)
  • 3 eggs – room temperature
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 t. baking powder – heaping
  • 3 to 5 t of Anise flavor or 1/4 t. of oil (we use the oil)

Preparation

Step 1

Cream sugar and butter together – adding one egg at a time and whip after each egg. Mix flour and baking powder adding a little at a time. Add anise oil and mix well.

On a cookie sheet put 3 fat short loafs. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes and check (needs to be golden on top).

Remove and slice (about ½” thick) put face down and broil until slightly toasted, flip and toast the other side.

Remove let oven cool and then put back in oven (can be left in over night). Store in an airtight container.
