Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2-1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tsp almond flavoring
  • 1 cup sliced cherries
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

Cream sugar and shortening together. Add eggs first, then dry ingredients. Mix in fruit. Spread in 9x13 cake pan.
Bake for 30 minutes at 350. Cut into squares while warm.

BUTTER ICING:
1/4 cup soft butter or margarine
1/2 tsp almond flavoring
few grains of salt
2 cups icing sugar
1/4 cup milk or cream

Cream butter or margarine, beat in almond flavoring and salt. Blend in icing sugar, alternately with milk or cream. Beat until smooth and of spreading consistency. Add more milk or icing sugar, if necessary.
