Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 2-1/2 c. sifted cake flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans (optional)
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate. Remove from heat. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in melted chocolate and vanilla. Combine buttermilk and water. Combine flour, salt and baking soda; add to batter alternately with the buttermilk mixture. Fold in nuts, if desired. Pour into a greased and floured 10-in. tube or fluted tube pan. Bake for 1-1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes; remove from pan to a wire rack. Dust with confectioners' sugar, if desired.
