Ingredients
- 2-1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1-1/2 tsp bkg soda
- 2 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
- 1/2 cup crisco
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3/4 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup coarse sanding sugar
- 1/2 cup finely chopped chrystallized ginger,optional

Preparation
Step 1
Mix your dry ingredients. Cream shortening and butter till fluffy. Add the sugar and molasses. Add the vanilla and the egg. Add the flour mixture. Chill.
When chilled, roll out the dough into walnut sized balls, then roll the balls into your sanding sugar. Place well apart onto cookie sheet.
Bake @350 for 10-12 minutes or until they are turning brown on the edges and they do not look wet on the top. They will still be soft to the touch.
