Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup red beans
  • 1/2 cup white beans
  • 1/2 cup chick peas
  • 2 Tbs oil
  • 2 large onions,diced
  • 1/2 cup barley
  • 4 potatoes,peeled and sliced
  • 2 Tbs onion soup powder
  • 1 15 oz can diced tomatoes

Preparation

Step 1

Soak the beans in water overnight. Drain
Heat oil in a pan,saute onions for 5-7 minutes until translucent.
In a crockpot, mix onions with beans and barley. Add water to cover. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and cook,covered for 30 min.
Add potatoes.Cook covered on low heat for 30 more min.
Stir in onion soup mix and tomatoes. Cook tightly covered on low heat for several hrs or overnight.

Kishka
2 onions
2 cups flour(can be whole wheat)
1 Tbs paprika
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2-3/4 cup oil
chop onion,using your hands,mix onion with flour,paprika ,salt and pepper.
Using your hands,add oil until the kugel is moist enough that it can be formed into a loaf.. when the cholent is hot,place the cholent on top of the cholent and then cover tightly.
